Cindy Adams of New York Post Makes it Official

John and Brad take venerable New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams to Aqueduct!

I saw the stalls, paddock, winner’s circle, jockey’s weigh-in room (they have behinds smaller than mine), outriders who lead the horses to the gate, and grooms who walk them before the race. I learned racing developed our terminology. Jockeying for position, ahead by a nose, coming around the bend, in the home stretch, that’s his turf and, mounting from a trainer’s bended knee, give them a leg up. And, despite my fear at doing something wrong, two judges high in a skybox let me press the button that made the fifth race “official.”

Official Derby Magazine Features Film

The Official Derby Magazine contains an excellent feature on the film and John and Brad by Rena Baer.

“The main thing we wanted to do was get interesting characters, not necessarily find the Derby Winner,” John Hennegan said. “We also wanted to smash the Hollywood racing stereotype of old men, rich people and the glue factory.”
